Chennai Express creates buzz with Lungi Dance on Social Media, Calls it a tribute to Rajnikanth

You know you are going to trend when you mix two things in this country. Shahrukh Khan and Rajnikanth. Chennai Express in order to create anticipation and hype have been heavily promoting the movie pre-launch on social media. Their new song ‘Lungi Dance’ aims to be a tribute to the Thalaivar (Rajni Sir) and is performed by Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone and sung by Honey Singh.

#LungiDance on Social Media:

The hashtag ‘#LungiDance’ is already trending on Twitter  as i write this post after it was first tweeted by Shahrukh Khan. The tweet  has already close to 900 re-tweets and 600 favorites. The Twitter community has jumped on to the new video released by the official Chennai Express handle. The official Chennai Express handle on Twitter is also spreading the word on the new YouTube video released with little snippets of the song in their tweet along with the video.

According to the latest stats by Keyhole Tool, Lungi Dance on Twitter has already generated more than 10 million impressions with more than 1,000 users contributing. The Chennai Express Facebook page which has close to 300K fans is also set buzzing with the new video preview shared by the page to the Facebook fans. Bollywood in the past year has been seen integrating social media with movie releases in order to measure the pulse of the fans before the launch. And with the Bollywood movie stars having being the most followed celebrities on Facebook/Twitter, social media marketing is a necessary extension of their movie promotion. With Shahrukh and Deepika already tweeting their experiences on the sets of Chennai Express, the movie is already making sure their fans are updated around ‘behind the scenes’ happening of the movie. However, it remains to be seen if the new tribute video to Rajnikanth would be well received by hardcore Rajnikanth fans on social media or not.
